Overview

This itinerary maps out an ambitious and stunning loop through the heart of Himachal Pradesh, transitioning from the lush, cedar-fringed valleys of Jibhi and Tirthan into the high-altitude, arid landscapes of Spiti. The journey begins with a climb over the Jalori Pass, moving through the cultural hub of Sarahan and into the Sangla Valley to visit Chitkul, famously known as India's last village near the Indo-Tibetan border. This initial phase focuses on river valleys and ancient architecture, like the Bhima Kali Temple, before the terrain shifts into the rugged, "middle land" scenery of the Himalayas.

As you move deeper into the Spiti Valley toward Kaza, the trip hits its spiritual and geographical peak. You’ll explore some of the world’s highest inhabited points, including the Kee Monastery and the world's highest post office at Hikkim. This segment is a masterclass in high-altitude endurance and sightseeing, featuring the architectural marvel of the Chicham Bridge and the serene Buddha statue at Langza. The route then circles back through Tabo, home to a thousand-year-old UNESCO heritage monastery, and the mysterious mummified monk at Gue.

The final leg of the journey is a long, rewarding descent from the high desert back toward the greenery of the lower valleys. After a final look at the Kinner Kailash peaks from Kalpa and a visit to the restricted Lepcha La border area, the ride concludes by retracing paths toward Jibhi or Rampur. It is a comprehensive circuit that balances intense riding hours with deep cultural immersion, taking you from the "Valley of Gods" to the "Land of Lamas" and back again.
